Fire extinguishers

At Nationwide fire & Security we are a leading supplier of fire extinguishers. Due to our volume of sales, we can offer massive savings on fire extinguishers, fire blankets, safety signs and other fire safety equipment without compromising on quality.

Do I need portable fire extinguishers?

According to The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, most non domestic premises require at least two class A fire extinguishers ( such as Foam or water ) on every storey of your building ( or one if the premises is very small and one more would hinder escape).

Most buildings with electrical equipment require 2 CO2 fire extinguishers, the size of which is dependant upon the their electrical (voltage) rating.

During a fire risk assessment our surveyor will identify other areas which may require specific fire extinguishers – for example, a wet chemical fire extinguisher and/or kitchen fire suppression system could be required in a kitchen with a deep fat fryer.

Fire extinguishers are required by law to be inspected and serviced annually by a competent fire extinguisher service engineer.

Fire Extinguisher & Fire Blanket Servicing & Maintenance

It is a legal requirement for fire extinguishers to be tested at least once a year. We are able to provide standalone fire extinguisher testing or incorporate it into an overall planned preventive maintenance (PPM) contract covering all your fire safety requirements.

This makes a lot more sense as our engineers are able to inspect and service your extinguishers, fire blankets, PAT test appliances and more, all during the same visit.

We also provide full range of other services such as fire alarm maintenance, emergency lighting maintenance and a lot more, with fully qualified, BAFE approved engineers working nationwide to keep our clients compliant with fire safety legislation.

During servicing, our fire extinguisher engineer will carry out a number of tasks:

  • Check the weight and pressure of each fire extinguisher
  • look for signs of corrosion, leakages, damaged hose/horn/nozzle or any tampering of the extinguisher safety pin
  • Fire extinguisher label is checked to ensure the service history is up to date and completed once the service is complete.
  • Ensure any labels or safety signage are visible and in the correct place.
